New From the Anchor Institution Task Force (AITF) July Newsletter! 📰

We've got some highlights into the fresh insights from the latest AITF newsletter to share:

1. Educational Inequities & Anchor Institutions: The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision on affirmative action has emphasized the importance of local multi-institutional collaborations. These collaborations aim to reduce inequalities and expand opportunities, especially for young people.

2. AITF's Educational Subcommittee: Formed a few years back, this subcommittee is all about strengthening educational and career pathways. They're currently discussing strategies like holistic support systems for students, recruitment and retention of BIPOC teachers, and creating direct connections between employers, careers, and schools.

3. Resources from the Field: The Universities and Community Schools Journal's latest issue dives deep into community-engaged research. It's a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of academia and community development.

4. Upcoming Special Issue: The Metropolitan Universities journal, in collaboration with the Place Based Justice Network (PBJN), is exploring challenges in place-based community engagement. If you've got insights, they're accepting manuscripts until August 1, 2023.

5. Equitable Community Engagement Toolkit: Launched by the City of Philadelphia, this toolkit is all about equitable community engagement. It's a fantastic resource for anyone looking to center equity in their community work.

6. Social Returns on HBCU Investments: With affirmative action receding, Historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are becoming increasingly significant in the social impact investment landscape.

7. Lown Institute's Socially Responsible Hospitals: The Lown Institute has released its annual list of the most socially responsible hospitals in America. It's a comprehensive ranking that integrates racial inclusivity, community investment, and pay equity.
