On January 29, Marga’s President & CEO, David Maurrasse spoke at the Corporation for National and Community Service in Washington, DC. The Corporation has been sponsoring numerous initiatives to enhance access to higher education for young people from vulnerable background. Maurrasse addressed the Corporation’s management and staff, emphasizing the significance of learning from what works in increasing the likelihood of vulnerable children advancing through the many segments of an educational pathway, what has become known as “Pre K to Twenty”. Maurrasse suggested that the role that the Corporation plays in the U.S. Federal Government can play a greater role in strengthening the education pipeline by advocating for programs that can be supported to a scale that can reach a substantial number of young people and schools.
Particular efforts to strengthen educational advancement for vulnerable young people and the characteristics of programs that are effective in this respect are addressed in Maurrasse’s upcoming book, “Leaking Pipeline”, which is supported by the Kellogg Foundation. The book should be surfacing in late 2008.
