The North American Trilateral Partnership, being facilitated by Marga Incorporated, is beginning to take on a life of its own. In October, the Partnership’s Canadian representative, Simon Fraser University, hosted an international symposium on the engagement of higher education. Mexican partner, Iberoamericana, and U.S. partner, the University of Pennsylvania were participants in the symposium as well. The learning exchanges among these three universities and their community partners will lead to a greater understanding of the most sensible ways to leverage the resources of institutions of higher education to tackle global concerns. These exchanges will lead to the creation of a tool to assist universities and community partners around the world enhance the effectiveness of their collaborative efforts.
As Marga has been clarifying its role as an outside/informed eye, which helps to create, enhance, and sustain partnerships, a Marga Method has emerged. In the role of partnership catalyst, Marga is identifying common interests among partners, and designing mutually beneficial strategies for working together. In the case of the North American Trilateral Partnership, Marga has been coordinating the ongoing communication among partners, facilitating the group’s exciting strategic direction, and seeking resources to support the development of a powerful internationally applicable tool to guide higher education/community partnerships. The Partnership will meet again in the U.S. in March, and in Mexico before the end of 2007.
