Maximizing and Mobilizing Atlanta Resources

Over the course of the last year and a half, Marga has been guiding and staffing the development of the Atlanta Neighborhood Indicators Project, which is coordinating data on Atlanta neighborhoods, and establishing a cross sector network, which can harness data and information in a manner which improves the lives of vulnerable children and families across the city. The Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Community Foundation, the Arthur Blank Foundation, the United Way, the City of Atlanta, Emory University, Georgia Tech University, and Georgia State University are some of the institutions that have been represented as this partnership has evolved.

While Marga is helping that partnership through its next phase of evolution, we are embarking on an incredible effort – the most comprehensive testing of the Marga Method to date.  One aspect of the Marga Method is to deliberately shape partnerships from scratch, using knowledge of promising practices and challenges facing collaborative cross sector efforts, identifying common interests across partners and forging clear strategies. The Annie E. Casey Foundation and Marga Incorporated agree that partnerships, which can tap into the resources of existing “anchor” institutions, can make foundation dollars go a longer way.

In January, Marga Incorporated will begin assisting Casey in connecting its programs in Atlanta with various local “anchor” institutions, which can range from corporations to hospitals to universities to museums, and beyond.  These institutions have a vested interest in the cities in which they are located.  Our desire is to create new partnerships, which address particular issues of common concern, and to bolster existing partnerships with the addition of new partners bringing resources.
